Our annual ornament is inspired by a mosaic in the North corridor of the Library’s Thomas Jefferson building. It depicts two muses unfurling a banner that states “Give instruction unto those who cannot procure it for themselves.”  The quote is taken from Book XIII of the Analects of Confucius, a rich text that cultivates the character and education of the philosopher’s followers.

The mosaic is positioned artfully above a window in the Jefferson building which frames a striking view of the U.S. Capitol dome.

The Library of Congress is often referred to as “America’s Library.”  It is the largest library in the world and the oldest cultural federal institution in the United States. The Library serves as the research arm of Congress and is recognized as the national library if the United States.  Gift boxed, approx 3.5" x 2". Plated metal.
