The Library of Congress began selling copies of its card catalog to libraries across the country and the world around 1902. As our collections grew, so did the cards, representing every item in our holdings.  The huge card volume necessitated a fleet of cabinets for organization and were found in every reading room.

With digitization, cards and their cabinets have been mostly replaced.  Now the cabinets are highly coveted by interior designers and bibliophiles alike.  They offer numerous storage uses for creatives.  

Each cabinet has 15 drawers. The cabinets can optionally be configured with stacking bases and floor stands to suit your functional and space requirements. Each component is sold separately. Stained hardwood with mahogany finish.  Components have complimentary hues, but will not be an exact match. Made in USA.

The back of cabinets may be stamped with inventory, vendor, or Library of Congress markings. Cabinets do not include cards.

Condition:
Heavily Used! Not new! These cabinets are in well-used but in solid condition.  They are functionally durable and patinated, with dings, rings, minor dents, and scratches from 50-75+ years of use and service in the Library.  Drawers will include brass handles, which will be darkened and possibly tarnished.  Individual drawers typically will not include the spring mechanism and are approx. 3.75"h. x 5.5" w. x 16"l. size.

       *  Stacking base is 2.25"h. x 33"w. x 17"d. (recommended for use when stacking 
           cabinets)
       *  Floor stand (has 4 legs) 9"h. x 33"w. x 17"d.

Safety Warning: Unsecured furniture can easily tip over especially when multiple drawers are open at once or climbed on by young children. To prevent accidents always anchor tall and heavy furniture to the wall using tip-restraint brackets (not incl.).

Addresses to PO boxes and excluded areas will automatically be cancelled. Cabinets weigh over 60 pounds each and shipping charge is based on weight. Onsite pickup is not available.
