Library of Congress Pocket Constitution Annotated
Adopted in 1787 and ratified in 1788, the United States Constitution has served as the bedrock of American government, politics, and law for over two centuries. Included in this unique pocket-size version is the full text of each article and amendment, along with brief explanations in plain English.
Alongside the commentary are QR codes that link each article and amendment to their respective pages in the Library of Congress’s online version of the Constitution of the United States of America, Analysis and Interpretation (Constitution Annotated). Prepared by constitutional scholars at the Library, the Constitution Annotated has been Congress’s official record of the Constitution for over one hundred years. It reflects the evolution of a practice Congress began in 1797 when it passed legislation to provide a copy of the Constitution to every Member of Congress.
On the linked webpages, detailed explanations of each clause of the Constitution shed light on America’s legal framework, while other resources explain relevant Supreme Court cases. Also included in this edition is the full text of the Declaration of Independence, America’s stirring document of freedom in celebration of the 250th anniversary of its adoption in 1776.
