2019 Columbia Annual Ornament
Long before Lady Liberty, Columbia was the embodiment of America. She first appeared in Phillis Wheatley’s poem His Excellency General Washington in 1775. A panel of Columbia designed by Carl Gutherz, and later photographed by Carol Highsmith, decorates the ceiling in the Library's House Members Room.
