Geisha Walking Bookmark
This bookmark was inspired by a “beauty” in one of Kitagawa Utamaro's ukiyo-e prints. Ukiyo-e translates as “pictures of the Floating World” and is so called because its subjects depict the transitory world. The original art was produced primarily during the Edo period.
Solid brass with an electro-plated gold finish. Approx. 2.25"l. x .75" w. (excluding tassle).
The Library's Asian Division collections contain dozens of ukiyo-e prints by Utamaro.
